Yes. After 6 years with my current camera. After going back and forth for months deciding which camera should I get. After months of extensive research, hundreds of YouTube videos and some moments of insanity, I finally settled on a decision and got a new camera.
Folks, meet my new Sony A7C Mark II.
The Dream Camera
Why is the Sony A7CII my dream camera?
One can talk a lot about the A7CII modern technology and features, understandably, because it’s a lot of camera for most people. The AI chip, the insane autofocus, the 33MP sensor. But the features that stood out for me are the basics: The full-frame sensor and the in-body stabilisation (IBIS) the camera has.

I’ve been using Sony APS-C system my entire life. I’ve not known the power of a full-frame sensor. I thought, oh APS-C would be fine for hobbyist – and it is — but Lord, how amazing a full-frame sensor is. For someone who only has been shooting APS-C before, I’ve seen a massive difference. Especially in the ability to separate subject from the background.
Sony A7CII vs Other Sony Full-Frames
I didn’t ask for much. I made a checklist of what I wanted in my next camera body and it has to be a full-frame sensor and has IBIS. Other features are just bells and whistles for me. Nice-to-haves. I was torn between getting the A7CII or A7IV a lot. They’re almost like twin brothers or sisters in terms of features. One is in bigger body, one smaller. At one point I almost went with A7IV because it was constantly on sale and cheaper at this point. I’m glad I held back. Sony Malaysia had a crazy sale (together with Lazada) and the A7CII was on nearly RM2.5K off. So I grabbed the offer.

Why I Spend Money on Camera Gears
Photography is not just a hobby. It’s a therapy for me. Photography heals me. Tinkering with my camera, heals me. Cleaning the lenses off the dusts heals me. I love everything about cameras. I carry my camera everywhere I go.
“But you have your iPhone. It takes good pictures as well.“
Oh yes, I do. But if you’ve been in photography you know. As good as iPhone camera is, it’s never as good as a dedicated mirrorless camera. That’s a fact.

Sony A7CII will set me up for another 7 to 8 years or possibly longer. To be honest, I’m not thinking about buying another camera body in the future because I’m not young anymore (lol), so this could be the last one. And it’s a good one. The great last dance. Save the best for last, right?
Thank you for reading my thoughts.
