Sigma has recently launched its very first ever zoom lens for the Sony APS-C system — Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN and I couldn’t be more excited. I have always carry one prime and one zoom lenses with me. Ever since my cat broke my Sony 55-210mm, I am left with no zoom lens. So when Sigma announced its new zoom lens, I knew this is what I want.
Sigma is known for their excellent image quality and colour reproduction while still keeping the price in the more affordable range. I bought one on sale so it was even better.
Real Life Experience
I recently went on a week long trip with my family to Langkawi. It was a much needed break after being confined at home due to endless lockdown. Of course, I took my camera setup along with me.
For this trip, I brought along my Sony A6300, Sigma 16mm f/1.4 prime lens and the newly purchased Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 zoom lens. But I found myself shooting exclusively with the zoom lens throughout the trip.
Here are some photos I took with Sigma 18-50mm.
Final Thoughts
Overall, during my brief use and testing of this lens, I am super impressed with its image quality. So much details were captured in a single photo. I especially love the wide f/2.8 aperture. It was the main reason why I chose this lens over its competitors. The only thing left me wishing for more is the maximum 50mm focal length. I wish it had more as sometimes I found myself longing for that extra focal length (coming from a 55-210mm previously).
Thank you for reading.
